Chess/Soccer Clinic


Join Elite Chess for our most exciting, most creative, event of the year! This winter break, we will be teaming up with one of the best soccer coaches in the state, Jim Konrad, to put on a chess/soccer clinic! Let's get our kids out from behind their computer screens and train their mind and their body at the same time! Space is definitely limited and, like most of our events, we expect the clinic to sell out in a matter of days. Do not wait to register for this one!


Chess/Soccer Clinic

When: December 28th & 29th, 2017 from 1:30-5:30pm each day.

Description: A two day, chess/soccer clinic over winter break. Students will be paired with chess, and soccer, players of their same age/ability level. Soccer players will be playing futsal, which is a fast paced 5 v 5 form of indoor soccer.

Eligibility: The clinic is for 1st-8th grade students. All levels of soccer and chess are welcome. If your child has never played chess before, we will teach them. If they have never played soccer before, we will teach them. If your child is an Elite chess or soccer player already, we will push them.

Where: Naperville North High School: 899 N. Mill Street, Naperville, IL 60563.

Clinic Fee: Fee for the two-day clinic is $80 in the form of cash or check. Register online and pay on the first day. Make checks payable to “Elite Chess”.



Coach Jim Konrad

Jim Konrad just completed his thirteenth year as head coach of Naperville North High School. During his tenure the Huskies have won a state championship (2016), earned eleven Dupage Valley Conference championships, and have amassed over 220 wins. Coach Konrad has been named Illinois High School Soccer Coach of the Year finalist three times and won the award in 2005. In 2012, his program won the Myro Rys Sportsmanship Award for the State of Illinois. Jim’s playing experience included Naperville North, Bowling Green State, Benedictine, and the Rockford Raptors of the USISL. As a player, Jim was an All-Stater at Naperville North, 2 x NCAA All-Midwest (BU), NCAA Academic All-Ohio and All-Mid-East (BGSU), 2 x NIIC Conference Player of the Year, and Soccer America Pro Player of the Week while with the Raptors.


Coach Jeff DiOrio

Jeff DiOrio is the owner of Elite Chess and the coach of the Naperville North High School Chess Team. He is in the middle of his 10th year coaching the chess team at NNHS. His career coaching record includes 174 wins, only 23 losses, and 1 tie. Coach DiOrio's Naperville North Chess Team has won a record 9 consecutive DuPage Valley Conference titles and in 2015 they won the IHSA State Championship. His teams have recently competed successfully at the national level, finishing in the top 20 in the United States 5 separate times in the last 8 years. Jeff has also been a finalist for the Illinois Chess Coaches Association Coach of the Year award three times and was named the ICCA Coach of the Year in 2017.
